Valley National Bancorp (VLY) is acquiring Bluevine Inc. and Providence Financial Corporation to strengthen its deposit franchise, expand commercial lending, and diversify revenues. Bluevine will add $2.1 billion in digital deposits and technology capabilities, while Providence contributes $1.35 billion in deposits and Chicago market presence.
Both deals are projected to close in early 2027 with expected EPS accretion of 8% and 2% respectively by 2028. However, integration costs, tangible book value dilution, and deposit attrition risks could limit near-term profitability.
